I agree with you Shaf, but also in the first Gulf war do you think Saddam kept to the Geneva Convention and how to treat prisoners of war - certainly not. As you said, war is an ugly business, it's up close, violent and horrific, unless you're in that situation no one can know what it's really like....

Dedicated cinema going? Mate I'm a movie freak, it was what I studied at university! There were a few moments in the movie where it had obviously been chopped by the censors here for whatever reason, and they're always crap at doing it, they just cut out the bit they don't want then slap it together...

Yeah but dude, have you seen what happens when an overly large person loses all that weight - flabby, hanging skin.

It all has to be surgically cut off, now that's just nasty and people don't realise it.

For goodness sake, no-one can 'force; you to have an alcoholic drink! What kind of lame ass excuse is that? If you don't drink, for whatever reason, don't drink!

So many Muslims in the UAE are drunk and disorderly on a regular basis.

I believe that only women in certain professions can sponsor their husbands, like being a doctor.

To move with you, your husband will need a residence visa, so whether he can go for a job here in which case he can sponsor you as well, you'll have to lokk into.

Yia sou! Ti kanis?

I'm only just learning a bit of Greek, but there you go. There is quite a sizeable Greek community in Dubai and they're very tight knit and get together in various groups quite frequently, so I'm sure you'll have no problems meeting some of them.

However, personally speaking, I could never commit myself to a guy unless I've taken him for a test drive! Who wants a life of crap s-e-x? You could always view it as a WIP... have something to work at rather something that fizzles out ;) Either way, personally I find it counter productive to talk ...

Ah OK, sorry! Yshimy, what about the issue that fewer and fewer people these days are getting married? With 1 in 3 marriages ending in divorce, people are making a commitement to one another without the 'piece of paper'! I've argued it before I don't need a bit of paper and a ring to show I'm commit...

So you're saying that all thgose people who 'choose' not to get married, but still have life partners, can't enjoy themselves? Shaf in today's society it isn't as black and white as that. And the clothes a women wears has absolutely nothing to do with the kind of person she is either, that's a sweep...

Fayz, The problem with the visit visa thing, is you have to do this every 60 days and would effectively be working illegally, they'll pick it up eventually. Better to get a residency. If you're working in media, try doing something through the media city free zone. I believe you can just pay for a v...

I saw this a while back and the performances from Joaquin Pheonix and Reese Witherspoon are fantastic, they can both really sing! I suspect it'll be lost on audiences here as they won't know who the heck Johnny Cash is. But even is you're not into his music, it's well worth checking out the movie as...

Interesting post Shaf and I agree with much that you've said. I think I just felt that in today's society the whole religious side of things for many is not relevant, I mean how many people get married in a church these days? Not many, come tot hink of it, how many people have actually been baptised...

I don't have a labour card either! I just have a company ID card and that's all I was ever given.

You're supposed to have a labour card, but very few people I know actually have them.

Depending which side you are, you could head into Al Ain and go upto Jebel Hafeet. It's amazing, great views and a cool mini golf course.

If you're on the Musandan side, the museum is very interesting, there's dow cruises and loads to see.
