I know a few people who live in JVT, they have no issues. To be honest even if it's not a gated community - which means nothing, given that there have been break-ins in the Springs etc - in Dubai in general you feel a lot safer than you would in other countries.

Bora Bora , Yes stateless people are given these passports! He had NO citizenship, passport or papers before this. This is what he was fighting for, the fact that people like him get nothing from their own country. Here's a better story about it as the link you provided gives no background details....

Taffymanc , She'll be fine I'm sure, it is indeed a much safer place than many countries. JVT is nice. I do seem to recall that there is security there, they just haven't gated it yet.

dsg , Don't read very well do you? The OP states the guy has been out of work and hasn't done anything about the visa for over SEVEN months! So well over the 3 month period.

FYI, 1 year bans are easily bought out, it's nothing more than a money making scheme.

If your getting info that your visa is still valid, then obviously it's not been cancelled and is still active. If you're getting nowhere with your employer, you really do need to file a case with the Ministry of Labour so they can help you sort it out. Sadly this is all very difficult for you to do...

Bah all my grandparents either lived to late 80's, early 90's all of them loved their tipple, they were all healthy and nothing wrong with them. Dementia is pre-disposed genetically.

It's difficult as many LL's don't want to be directly contacted, hence the use of agents.

If your visa is not cancelled, when it expires you start to acrue fines. Sounds like you really need help from the Labour department and file a case against the employer. What they've done is terrible.

Absconding cases are supposed to be filed after 7 days. Regardless, the guy still has to go to MOL for them to sort it out.

Basically stay off the roads from about 2-3pm till sunset, as that's when all the crazy happens.

What you could do is go to the polcie and say your former employer has stoeln your passport - they have it and refuse to return it or do anything. Any employer withholding a persons passport for any reason is breaking the law.

I guess the whole point of them employing an agent is so they don't have to deal with the hassle. Just the way it goes.

Be wary of job sites! There are many scammers out there. Anyone who asks you for a fee up front or of any kind to help you find work is not genuine.

It's much easier to actually be here in Dubai to look for work, as these days many employers like to hire locally.

You don't have to do it NOW. They send you an sms when it's your turn to go and register.
