Re: Do not take a Ford Escape into the Desert!

Still waiting to see the repair bill 8) Rolled over? Oh nothing so serious... just all the plastic bits decided they didn't like sand and leapt off the car. Not too much... but enough that I think the repair bill will be a couple of '000. You mean a Ford Escape if more than a couple of '000 new :sh...

Bankok ideas/recommendations

On my way to Thailand (Bankok) for 9 days first week in January, as usual, without a plan - just a hotel room for the first 2 nights.

Any suggestions, etc.

Aside from the perennial temple, just walk around and blend in with the locals. Those are the only cultural things I can think of. And yes, watch a kickboxing match. Whatever you do, stay away from the floating market! And why is that? It is in all guide books. Nothing there, rip-off, dirty (seems ...

Re: Bush or Saddam - who has hurt Iraq more?

I hate polls, so won't set one up even though this is a great question to ask. I think that the combination of sanctions, invasion and occupation has led to more Iraqi misery than under the Saddam era. Am I wrong to think more Iraqis have suffered under US-led intervention? All kidding aside, you are worth 200,000 Dirhams dead in the UAE. That is, by law, the "price" or "blood money" if you negligently kill someon. So I say, dry carefully and get life insurance.
