I'd make sure that Emal knew that they've got a bad deal. In this day and age, with the econimic crisis, blah, blah, blah, the bottom line is usually money. We have a similar sitaution in our company in India, where an indian guy (employed by us) is ripping off our company by awarding subcontracts a...

The F1 is normally shown on Bahrain TV, which starts off with the discussions etc in Arabic, but when it cuts to the race, they takle the UK commentary from the BBC - Jonathan Legard and Martin Brundle, so its OK - you get the official F! feed for the pictures - the only thing you don't get is the B...

Security was an absolute JOKE! You couldn't take lighters inside the grounds - they were confiscating them at the security checkpoints (complete with X-Ray scanners, hand held scanners and pat-downs). The solution? Put the lighter in your bag, which then got X-rayed, and it gets through!!! What kind...

Re: A Dog's Life in Dubai!!!!!!!

Isn't there a place called "K9" or somethign similar - a sort of canine welfare charity? I think i remember reading something that they recently moved to new, improved premises in Jebel Ali, and they had some sort of convoy up SZR transporting all the dogs.

Re: British man executed in China

As i understand it, the guy met with some Polish people, and they saw him as the perfect "mule" for the drugs (due to his obvious mental state) - as mentioned above, the song he recorded was laughable to say the least (it needed more of a drum and bass sound, then perhaps it could have bee...

@ MCL - Delivery boy. Without a doubt. You're absolutely right - they should have looked into this a lot further. The actual trial, i believe, lasted half an hour.....and without adequate translation (as it has been reported). Regarding the Youtube comments.......Michael Jackson never deemed insane?...

Re: Driving in the fog

I have just driven from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and was surrised to see how many "idiots" were driving with no lights at all. The fog was patchy, but in some places was quite thick visibility down to about 20-30 metres, and yet some people still don't see the need for lights. The thing about ha...

Re: Driving in the fog

How is using an orange flashing light on the roof of a moving vehicle wrong? And how is it dangerous???It's a SAFETY item. That's what they are for. To warn other motorists of a moving vehicle. As seen on thousands of lorries, etc in this country. And its better than nothing, in the absence of no fo...

Re: UAE Rains - 27 Feb 2010

I read on Gulf News website that part of the Indian Pavillion had collapsed, and at least one person has been killed and several injured. I must admit i have only been there once, and i was surprised by the temporary nature of the buildings - they appear to be just Plywood shells in places. I expect...

Re: Visa rules tightened over expulsion of ruling family mem

You have to ask yourself how stupid some people must be, to persist in accusing someone of being a terror suspect, as far as to the point of deportation/expulsion, when, presumably, at the first sign of trouble, they identified themselves as members of the ruling family of Dubai. Does no-one even st...

Re: Ronnie Barker and Spoonerisms....Gucking Fenius !

Remember Kenny Everett, and his character - "Cupid Stunt". Likewise, this appeared to go either un-noticed or un-challenged.

Some of the comedy of the 70s and 80s was, like you say, absolute genius.

Dubai Metro - Psychics Only Please!

So after nearly nine months i finally made it onto the Metro last night. I had to show my fiancee how to use it, and so having nothing particular to do, we decided to take a ride from Dubai Internet City (station just opened), to Union Station, Deira. Everythign went (fairly) smoothly buying the car...

Briton held for wearing a bikini in Dubai shopping mall afte

A British holidaymaker has been charged with indecency in Dubai after walking through the world's largest shopping centre in a bikini. The woman was buying clothes and gifts in the Dubai Mall, fully dressed but in a low-cut top, when she was accosted by an Arabic woman and criticised for wearing 're...

Re: Another brutal attack - what's going on?

What's going on? Simple....another example of people who think that everyone else should do as they say, because they think they are special, and when others dare to not do as they say, they seem to think that a lesson needs to be learned. These people are animals - i'm trying to decide if this is w...

Re: Another Brutal Attack - What's Going On?

Don't you think it's a bit wrong that the woman is named, and even a photo published online of her, while the alleged attacker is not even named? As for the private parties issue - It's fine to have a private party with prostitutes who are being paid to be there, and do whatever people want. They kn...

Re: Another Brutal Attack - What's Going On?

Gulf News tend to identify accused people by initials only....but when you catch the same story in the western press, the accused normally get named in full. I feel sorry for the woman - bad enough to go through something like that, but now everyone klniows her name and what she looks like. In other...

Re: Another Brutal Attack - What's Going On?

Well no, it would be initials and the story would be littered with 'allegedly', in the UK cannot name a defendant until they are formally charged. Agreed. But if a man is to appear in court in relation to this later in the month, then surely he has already been charged? Or does it work differently ...

Re: Another Brutal Attack - What's Going On?

Depends which paper will report it. You tend to find 7 Days are ahead of the game with this sort of thing, where as the 'governmentally' owned rags like GN, Emirates 24 etc will hang back and only give initials. They don't like to name and shame locals. To be fair here, they don't generally name an...

Yeah.....you sentence them to be stoned to death, one of the most barbaric things on earth, and quite often for some spurious allegation of adultery or something.

It's a UPS Cargo Boeing 747-400. Came down just off emirates road and al ain road, near to or even inside the militay base there.

Passed the scene just after 10pm - still a lot of smoke around and plenty of emergency services.

All the reports say that this happened after a "take off" from Dubai. Nothing is mentioned about an aborted emergency landing. Not even from UPS. Who did you speak to that is "in the know"? It seems a little unlikely that a plane on fire between Doha and Bahrain would seek to ret...
