Hi everyone, I'm considering relocating to Dubai in the near future, and I'm wondering what to expect in terms of culture shock, adjustment difficulties, etc. BTW I didn't mean to sound negative in the title above- this will be my first time living in a Muslim country, and I'm actually quite excited...
Hi, I'm wondering if any of you have had particularly good or bad experiences when relocating here in Dubai (either office or residential relocations). I'll be launching a customer ratings website soon, and I'm trying to get a sense of which companies are reputable and which ones are less so. I'm es...
Hi, I'm American as well and a member of Couchsurfing, we have frequent and varied get-togethers and we're all really laidback if I can brag for a minute. :-) I'm a new Forum member here so I can't post the web address, but google "Couchsurfing", click through to the groups section and sea...
I don't know about #1, but Shanghai is the most cosmopolitan city in mainland China and has a unique style that I've come to love after living here for 5 years. It's quite cool to be a part of so many changes (social, economic, etc.) happening all at once. Still some progress to be made but some of ...
Looks like Englishman In Dubai hasn't been updated in a few months. Too bad, the articles make for interesting reading. Here in Shanghai we have Shanghaiist, which is one of the Gothamist blogs and is staffed by several freelance bloggers. Since the expat community is quite close-knit here (we have ...
Are you looking for CV consultants in general, or do they need to be from Dubai specifically? I had a look on eLance just now, and there are quite a few freelancers in Dubai if you search under "resume" (not so many under "CV"), and I'm sure there would be even more if you expand...
Just had a look at both Time Out and Infusion.ae. I've been wondering where to look for nightlife info, these both look great. Will definitely come in handy when I eventually make it out to Dubai. Thanks @LostAlcatraz and ibakir.
Hi, I noticed there weren't that many unlocked posts in this forum, so I thought I'd start one related to moving companies. Anyone had a particularly negative experience that they need to vent about? If so, I'm all ears. Thanks!
Wow Juergen, these are great. I especially enjoyed the one from the plane window looking out on the Palm Jumeirah. Including the wing in the shot is an interesting twist to a much-photographed location.
@Lying- swap out "Amsterdam" for "Shanghai" and that would describe my experience out here.
I'd also add Cairns to the list. Granted, not a world capital, but I never met an Aussie I didn't like and the rainforest/reef combo in Queensland is amazing.
I saw a thread about the Arabicpod language-learning website, but it was from back in 2009 and I wanted to know if people still recommend it. Also, how important is it to learn passable/survival Arabic before moving to Dubai? I know over 80% of residents are from other countries, but I don't know ho...
