Re: Reporting adultery case & sharia law?

I don't think you needed to mention how many times he 'came'. 8) NOT FUNNY AT ALL. GROW UP, MATE. If the situation is that serious, you should be seeking proper counsel. If you're going to air it on the internet, expect to receive any and all sorts of comments. You're in a pickle my friend, best le...

it does. i read through the link above as well, a little confusing for a non-economist such as me. an i correct in assuming that the current GDP is really artificial at this stage, all the construction materials (fixtures/ fittings etc) are imported; these are measured in the GDP under imports, but...

By the way, this from Wikipedia: C is private consumption in the economy. This includes most personal expenditures of households such as food, rent, medical expenses and so on but does not include new housing. So Arnie, either you plagiarised Wikipedia without crediting your source, or... you wrote...

The short answer is... forget it. I have had nothing but trouble with the DU STB, mostly because it is a cheap, plastic, piece of crap. Forget setting your favourites, as periodically Du reset the channel list and it will set you back to square one... don't even bother. I spent an hour once setting ...

Ahh, it's hard to say it's 'artificial' since it is not an awfully accurate measurement to begin with (the lack of proper taxation and accounting in the UAE makes this difficult as has been noted on many reports I read), but I would say that the value is currently sitting where it should. An expens...

As it happens he was totally incorrect. Oil accounts for a mere 5.1% of the GDP and property sales dont count at all. He still seems to be at a loss of what other income is generated in terms of imports into the Dubai /UAE. I have posted an example within this thread re China. If i were to hazzard ...

Yeah I quite often get them in change from Choithrams.

Try the 200 Dirham note on for size... if you get one of those. Half the people you show it to think it is fake.

That's an awesome idea. I have about 100 dirhams sitting in a bowl on my bench. I use it to tip delivery guys, but your new idea is great.

I might go to Emirates Bank later and stock up on them.

UAE enters 20th Century with new Bus Service

Today the UAE launched a new bus service which will transport passengers across the GCC country and Arab region. It's a fine idea... if it were 1990. Low budget airlines and cheaper air travel have pretty much killed the bus transport industry in most major cities. It goes without saying, that in th...

It depends on where the bottleneck is occurring. The benefit of the higher speeds is not just the downstream, but the upstream is also increased. Sometimes if your upstream is clogged, it slows your downstream down markedly. It's also a question of caching. If you have a higher bandwidth you can cac...

But is it the "upload" speed here (Dubai) or at home that matters, or both? I used slingbox at home (remotely but in that part of the world) and it worked without a hitch. That's why I am wondering whether the "speed" in Dubai would make a difference. I'' do the testing suggeste...

Mind you Arnie, considering the amount of people that go on Coach Trips from UK to Europe and also the Interstate Buses in the USA are thriving, maybe it's an Aussie thing  There's a couple of reasons for the above. Firstly, coach trips in Europe are practical because of the short distances i...

Re: Residency Cap

I am sure you're all aware about the proposed "3+3" residency cap on unskilled workers. Good thing is that some business groups refuse to welcome this proposal. Since most of DFers are expats, what's your thought about this issue? I saw it in the paper but was unmoved by it. It will only ...

This does not make any sense at all, why would you spend all the money to recruit, train, promote etc., and then throw it all away and start again. Read 'unskilled'. 6 years is a long time for unskilled workers, and before people start criticising the UAE, although I think it's a long term problem,...

The point is after 6 years many of them are not "unskilled" anymore, it just doesn't make any sense at all. You mean they went to university and achieved a degree whilst they were here? That being the case, they are no longer classed as 'unskilled'. If they haven't achieved a higher educa...
