Is Lionel Messi seeking to match Cristiano Ronaldo's salary? Sep 22, 2013
Gareth Bale was the highest signing after his deal with Real Madrid was done a few weeks ago, but then the team extended Cristiano Ronaldo's contract to make his pay even higher.

Portuguese football ace Ronaldo on Tuesday night showed he was worth every one of the pennies he gets paid as he scored his 21st hat-trick in Real Madrid's 6-1 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League.
In the clash with the Turkish team, Ronaldo has become the fourth-highest scorer in Champions League history with a total of 53 goals. Only Spaniard Raul who scored 71 goals, Barcelona star Lionel Messi who has scored 59 goals and retired Dutch player Ruud van Nistelrooy who has scored 56 goals have more.

Gareth Bale helped Ronaldo score one of his goals, but the 28-year-old winger seemed on song as he played some skilful football with great footwork.

Bale has said Ronaldo was the boss at Real Madrid and on Tuesday, he played as though he was in total control of his game as the duo combined well to help their team to 6 goals.

The exact figure that Ronaldo earns is not clear but media reports indicate that he could be bagging around 20 million euros a season.

If Tuesday's performance was anything to go by it can best be said that the contract extention has worked as a motivator for the football star. Real Madrid will be hoping for more such heroics form Cristiano Ronaldo as they seek the La Liga and Champion.

With Cristiano Ronaldo agreeing a new contract at Real Madrid till 2018 on a reported annual salary of 17m euros (approx. Rs 146 crore), media in Spain and England is abuzz with reports that fierce competitor Lionel Messi too is seeking a hike in salary.

The world footballer of the year is reportedly unhappy at Ronaldo's new contract with rivals Real Madrid, especially being a player who has won the Ballon d'or four times in succession. The FIFA Ballon d'Or (Golden Ball) is an association football award given annually to the player who is considered to have performed the best in the previous year.

Spanish newspaper SPORT report that Messi is seeking a huge rise to his current pay packet that comes in at 12.5million euros (approx. Rs 107 crore). Messi has already scored six goals in three league games this season including a hat-trick away at Valencia while both him and Ronaldo opened up their Champions League campaigns with hat-tricks.

Barcelona president Sandro Rossell though has sought to deny the widespread media claims.

"Does Ronaldo's renewal affect Messi's contract? Messi hasn't said anything to us.

"He's happy here and he's at the best club in the world. No news is good news," said Rossell.

Messi is also facing charges and is due in court on September 27. The Argentine star and his father Jorge allegedly hid more than £3.4million between 2006 and 2009.

Ya Reports say that Lionel Messi is wanting to increase his salary from 12.5 million Euros.Real madrid has extended the contract of Christiano Ronaldo for 18 miilion Euros.Messi is undoubtably a better player than Ronaldo. The way he has played for Barcelona for the past years makes him worth for increase in contract.More over sources also say that Neymar is also geting a salary of 11 million Euros.I dont know whether it is true. But if it is true then there id no reason why Messi cant get a higher salary. http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/lione ... aro-sport/
