Most of the people I know here in Dubai is saying it is seldom or almost close to not possible to make new friends here? As everyone is just thinking of money money money....

No it's not true. I have made many good friends here, both on and off the forums.

i believe its partially true... most people when they come here, they start leading a purely mechanical life.... everyday its the same.... room to office to room.... you tend to make friends only with people in youe workplace....
but i also feel that once you meet someone outside work... once you get into a group of friends, you can then meet a lot of new people... and sooner or later ui will find that u have a good friend in your life....

total crap ... its just like any other city in the world. why do people like to make it like dubai is an alien city where things are so different ... you will find all kinds of people here .. from straight up jackasses to amazing people.

I had a similar discussion with some mates the other night, except it was work - drink - work

So we're going to start doing some other things, like play Rugby, have card nights, the odd Aussie BBQ in the park, just to break the pace.

there are people who are after money and others who just want a friendship. After a while, youll find out who is true and whos not. But its not only in dubai

no, not at all. i've found several people who turned out to be real good friends.
