Use Of Term African American Or Black In Dubai ?

Is it true that in Dubai, the typical custom when talking about African Americans, is that they prefer to use the term "blacks" instead of "African American" ???
I was quite surprised when someone told me this. I did not believe this to be true and was surprised to hear this. Can someone comment on this thanks.

Does your 'source' say that 'they' only refer 'African Americans' as 'blacks' or do 'they' use the term for anyone who appears to be from 'black' Africa?
In Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, it is quite normal to use the term 'white' and 'black' to refer to caucasian and negroid people respectively.

In the States both terms are used, but more frequently "black" is used. The person who told you this, where are they from?
