Co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs passed away - and many a deserving tribute to the man are out there.

One piece of news that came out that I only found out this morning, is that his biological father is Syrian - which, for those who look at things this way, makes him an Arab-American.

Most people aren't going to make a big deal of his genes - but will focus on his genius, as his father eloquently does in an interview a while back:

Jobs was adopted, because his paternal father would not agree to his daughter marrying an Arab. Later on, they did get married and have a novelist daughter.

Amazing man. Had been battling cancer for some time. Made a huge contribution to how we know life today.

I toyed with putting it in General - but put it in here because the 'Arab-American' aspect was news to me.

I'm a fan of Apple and was coincidentally playing with an Ipad 2 yesterday evening in the shop... but resisted the purchase in the end.

The Arab-American aspect is completely inconsequential. He's got some Arab genetics because of his father, but was raised by non-Arab Americans and was a Buddhist vegetarian.

kanelli - I agree. Reading through the obituaries on tech sites that I frequent - he was fortunate to have been born at the right time and brought up in the right neighbourhood to benefit from the new science of computers. He was introduced to his first computer at age 12 by a neighbour who worked at HP..

Malcolm Gladwell notes this was the case with Gates and others of the same generation in Outliers... an interesting observation that has some merit, I think.

I believe that nurture, rather than nature, play a larger role.

He was a veggie too ! Atleast now he can eat proper food.

The commencement speech he gave at Stanford in 2005. I think he was such an interesting man.
