Go Taliban, Go!
Pakistani security forces have claimed success in storming the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and rescuing more than three dozen hostages.
The commando operation, launched in the early hours of Sunday, left three hostages, two soldiers and four suspected fighters dead, according to a Pakistani military spokesman.
Six soldiers and four suspected fighters had already been killed in the siege of the army general headquarters (GHQ), which began on Saturday.
Major-General Athar Abbas gave few other details but said that 20 of the hostages had been kept in a room, guarded by one of the fighters who was wearing a suicide vest.
The man was shot before he managed to detonate the vest, Abbas said.
Kamal Hyder, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Islamabad, said that a total of 39 hostages were freed by special forces.
"The attempt was to save as many lives as possible," he said.
"But three hostages died as well two special force soldiers."
