In a recent Pew Research poll that came out the other day, a strong majority (80-85% range) of Muslim respondents in Nigeria, Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt support introducing legislation where adulterers would be stoned, thieves' hands would be amputated and apostates killed.
The poll also showed that most Muslims in those countries support segregation in the work place. Not sure if that includes schools or if that was taken for granted.
In moderate Indonesia, a strong minority (49%) supported at least some of the above.
On the positive side, however, most Turks (80 percentish) reject such legislation in their country.
Needless to say, the separation between religion and state in Islam is still a pipe dream. Most Westerners will find these figures (even for Turkey) pretty disturbing. But, nevertheless, this poll is a good reality check to any naive Westerner who thinks most Muslims are moderates.
