Gaza Misery Continues

Gaza misery continues Nov 30, 2010
The presence of one Olympic sized swimming pool in Gaza built by donations, not-withstanding, a report by people not relying on blogs for their information states that the Israeli siege of Gaza is still crippling the inhabitants of what is termed 'the largest open prison on earth'.

It's really hard to not see the siege as a collective punishment - but leaving that aside, the report is clear that the so-called easing of the siege hasn't brought much relief - because of Israel's actions (not doing what it committed to do):

"Only a fraction of the aid needed has made it to the civilians trapped in Gaza by the blockade," said Jeremy Hobbs, Director of Oxfam International.

"Israel's failure to live up to its commitments and the lack of international action to lift the blockade are depriving Palestinians in Gaza of access to clean water, electricity, jobs and a peaceful future," Mr Hobbs added.
