Hitchens brings up an insightful observation to a Leftist's talking points reminding the questioner that one of al-Qaeda's gripes with "Dar al-Harb" (House of war - ie., non-Muslim lands) includes the West's intervening in Indonesia in stopping the massacre of the mostly Christian population.
As Hitchens says: "If you want to avoid upsetting these people, you have to let Indonesia commit genocide in East Timor, otherwise they'll be upset with you. You'll have made an enemy."
What's interesting, is OBL and the Bali Bombers cited East Timor as the reason for the bombings of the UN office in Iraq and the Bali Bombings in Bali targeting Western - mostly Australian - tourists.
