101 teams of High School children took part in the annual International Mathematical Olympiad, this year in Amsterdam.

China came top - and has done so for a number of years. The top spots see the USA and Russia - as well as 'usual suspects' such as the Koreans, Taiwanese. Turkey was placed high this year at number 6 and Iran was 10th.

UK was 17th (way to go), but the UAE was 100 (oops).

(Israel was 23rd - perhaps they didn't choose those genetically better at Maths as eh believes...? )

But the Chinese are number 1.. again.

When it comes to a country like China and Russia/SU, there are obvious environmental factors.

I wonder how many children in the US and Canadian teams are Chinese descent.

As for Israel/Jews, I don't recall the last time Israeli Jews have won a fields medal or Nobel in the hard sciences , particularly physics or chemistry.

Jews who win such honors typically reside in the West.

And yes, there are a disproportionate number of European Jews who are fields medalists and Nobel Laureates in Physics.

I'm surprised that there isn't a Chinese fanbois advocating a theory that the Chinese are better because of their racial superiority.

I personally think achievement in sciences has more to do with parent's income and the quality of the education one receives (and in some ways they are related) - not their racial group. But that's just me - someone who likes to base views on facts, not fiction.

Seems like the same argument was previously used for explaining athleticism.

Then the science and reality were given and those claiming all races are equally gifted did a complete 180 or fled the thread entirely.

I also smell a bit of fallacy being given. No one has disputed that quality of education does not contribute to education / 'intellicange' (duh). Einstein would not be a famous physicist today if he instead were born stranded on a tropical island.

It's when all things being equal, we see differences in average ability begin to emerge (and sometimes ethnic groups are so genetically gifted that equity is not a major requirement/prerequisite either; think Black urban youth and sports).

Oh, and statistically, how many Olympic marathon medals should be given to Asians during every summer Olympics? How many Asians have *ACTUALLY* won marathon medals? Are people trying to claim the Chinese government does not take the Olympic games seriously and does not spend serious amount of time training her athletes?

My guess is that the Chinese government spends more training hours per athlete (including marathon runners where China does not excel at) than Jamaica/Haiti. Strange that Jamaicans manage to outperform Asians at every marathon meet.

But please, go ahead and claim the 'facts' support your belief. Maybe if you repeat your line enough times and click your heels your belief will come true ?

So they're good at Mathematics? they're also good at pumping CO² into the atmosphere, China is responsible for around 24% of Global Emissions and they’re NOT very good at building safety devices into High Speed Trains are they?

You're right. West Africans don't have the endurance for swimming. It's biological.

Very strange results I must say. Dubai Knight told me that "British curriculum" is the best in the World. That's why most private schools in the UAE adopted this system of education. I'm confused now.

The best curriculum in the world is useless if you have a class full of lazy, disrespectfull kids.
I'm also guessing that the UK representatives were of either indian or paki descent, otherwise they would have no hope of getting as high as 17th.

Naughty naughty ben! There is nothing the matter with most English kids. A few get all a bad name. My beautiful Beth is doing very well at her state school, as are a lot of her friends. A very nice bunch of kids and I'm sure they aren't alone.

And she's not yellow, she's orange. She hasn't quite got the hang of Fake Bake but she did score an A+ in physics and has had her first flying lesson today (without drugs)
