Lol, kinda..

Anyway, maybe it’s ur laptop mem or the disc itself (i.e. if ur playing ur mp3s stored in disc). I have experienced it before so what I did was copy the files in hdd and rewrite it (not sure if this is your case tho...)

hi 175,

was that supposed to be 35 gig of HDD space? i would suggest check how many programmes run at start up, if there are a lot disable the ones that you really dont require. This basically seems to be a problem of not enough memory to run the application playing the songs or movie. I presume this happens when your laptop has been running for quite a long time. if that is the case restart it once before playing the cds.

But i am sure its programmes starting at startup ( easiest way to detect is check the number of icons in the systray in the task bar) the higher they are, more is your ram used unnecessarily.try using an application that sniper suggested to lower memory usage.

To disable the programmes run the msconfig command, go to the startup tab and disable the unwanted programmes, save the changes. restart and you are good to go. make sure u dont disable any applications required by windows to run.

if this doesnt work lemme know

If you know all of the above, why am i carrying on

cheers,

J

^ What Jeevs said basically but I would also add in case it doesn't solve your problem to check the virtual memory. Don't panic! I am going to guide you step by step ...

1- Right-Click on My Computer which should be either on your desktop or in the Start menu. Click on Properties.

2- Click on the Advanced tab, then on Settings in the Performance section (top section)

3- On the next screen, you will have 3 tabs (Visual Effects, Advanced, Data Exec bla bla). Click on Advanced.

4- In the Virtual Memory section click on Change.

5- Make sure "Custom Size" is selected. In both Initial Size and Maximum Size enter 1.5 times the amount of RAM (memory) you have. If you're unsure about the amount of RAM you have, right-click on My Computer (step 1) and on the first screen you get (General Tab), in the Computer section on the bottom, you will find information such as CPU speed, Operating System version and the amount of RAM you have (256,512, 1 Gb...)
Once you update these 2 values, just click on OK.

6- Restart your system.

Hope that helped! Let us know if this fixes your problem!

To reduce the number of applications on startup, thus reducing memory usage, do the following:

- Click on Start, go to RUN
- Type msconfig
- Hit Ok
- Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck whatever you're not using. if you're not that computer savvy, cut and paste the list on here and we'll tell you what to uncheck.

Also, go to START, PROGRAMS, Startup and remove any useless applications that start that way too.

Always keep MSN and Yahoo on manual startup and not automatic startup.
