I checked out the new iPad today and, as a diehard Mac fan and user, have to say its over-hyped and really not that functional at all! It a big iPhone...without the phone bit. Yes, you can access Skype on it (illegal in the UAE) and all the services appear to be online which, bearing in mind the infrequent nature of wireless hot spots in the UAE, means it is best used at home...where I already have a perfectly functional MacBookPro laptop and iPhone for talking to the world through my Airport wireless network! I repeat: there is no phone in an iPad!
Has Steve Jobs jumped the gun? This is a device that will work best when Wimax networks are city wide and mobile 4G internet access is available at peanut scale prices across large geographical areas. Until then, keep your 4000+ Dhs in your pocket (twice the retail price in the US!) until there are the services and functionality in the system to use it properly. Then it will be Star Trekkinly good!
