Help: International City + DU + Linksys router = not working Oct 13, 2007
Hi,

It's my first thread here in this forum and I'd like someone to help me out, I just moved to International City and I got my broadband from Du (no choice), as some of u guys know that with Du (International City in particular) u don't get a modem or anything, they will activate a socket in your wall and they will give u a standard cable (LAN cable) which is fine if u have on DESKTOP PC AND YOU LIVE IN THE 90S, because nowadays everyone uses wireless (wake up Du) anyways I've asked the Du guy if it will be possible to get a wireless router to work on their network and he said yes so I went and bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless broadband router and since yesterday I can't get it to work, I don't know if it's me or my laptop or something that Du has done to prevent it (in order to get more money activating other sockets), my question is has anyone one here managed to setup a broadband wireless router on Du networks (International City) and how?
Any help is highly appreciated.

Cheers,

sozon

Welcome to the forums, I’m not in International city but am a DU customer (like you no choice) and have that exact router, WRT54G and run wireless at our place.

Just to confirm you’re saying that your laptop works fine with the lan cable plugged into it but when you stick the lan wire into the socket on the furthest left of the router that says internet it doesn’t work?

If this is the case I doubt it has anything to do with DU but rather the security or config of your router, sign into your router and check maybe you have mac filtering or some other type of security enabled that is causing you grief?

Thanks for the reply, I'm kinda a n00b when it comes to routers, would u guide me through configuration or perhaps take a screenshot of ur configurations and post it here?
when i directly but the lan cable from socket to laptop, it works just fine, but when i put it into the router and then try to access the net either wirelessly or through the provided vable it just doesn't work, I've already configured my router to DHCP automatic setting and thats about it, is there any extra configurtions i should put there?

Thanks in advance
