Hi,
I need to install JRE (Java runtime environment or something) on to my PC at work but I can't since i don't have the privileges.

I remember reading a longggg time ago, something (Jeevan, I think) said he has a way around this.

Can anyone help out? Whether its JRE, or any software.

try to direct the software to install in a different location than Program Files, preferably somewhere you have permissions to like your my documents or something that might do the trick.

yeah i do that for some software which lets you choose the path.
BUT something like JRE...which needs to install in windows and wherever else it wants too...doesnt work.

reset the administrative password:

start -> run -> control userpasswords2

tadaa ! lemme know if it works out for you, or try editing the registry

The window came up for the accounts, but it says I'm not a member of the administrator group, so can't change any passwords.

How would I edit the registry? I dont think it would be SO easy to just mess around with admin settings/password, right?

are you on a domain ?

you can try renaming your profile folder ( under C:\documents and settings ) as Administrator & administrators profile, lets say TEMP.

Not sure if it will work for you, but you can try working out with that through a batch file.

Why dont you simply ask your admin to give you access or permission to install the things, u might not need to go through all this fuss.

you can also try restoring the system, default, software, sam & security under Repair Folder in your sysroot and change the computer settings & you will log in as a fresh adminsitrators. ( remember all the settings will be lost , i.e desktop settings & log on profiles , although the documents will remain, and applications will seem not to be registered)

Hi,
yeah i'm on a domain. Have to connect to the office server and all.
Wouldn't be able to rename the admin directory and stuff; I don't really want to get MAJORLY into it like restoring the system and stuff.

Asking the IT guys is useless. They won't do anything and they visit this office rarely. Will try.

there are several ways to hack into the administrative passwords for pc and the domain itself. but its worthless again if you donot want to get deep into it. anyways best of luck speaking to your guys..

Just Google "ntpasswd".

instead of all this, why dont you walk over to the company IT administrator and tell him you need the software installed ?

Well, the IT guy rarely comes here, and when he does he doesn't seem too bothered. Just says 'what you have is all you need' kinda thing.
