Is it true I need a residence visa to subscribe to a broadband connection?

In your own name, yes.
If your apartment is in your companies name, they can apply for everything on your behalf if they're willing to.

Else, DSL, phone line, license, car...pretty much anything...requires you to have a residence visa.

What happens is this; my firm cuts the cheque and deducts it from my pay on a monthly basis so the studio will indeed be in their name so basically I need the signature of the resident partner (or the Managing Partner becuase he's in town) on the paper work for Etisalat and Showtime? Many Thanks.
