Money makers in Dubai, clinics or doctors to avoid Jan 15, 2015
I wonder if anyone else had similar experience with doctors or clinics in Dubai.

I cannot believe what I have just heard on the phone. Here is my story about money makers in Dubai London Clinic.

I was looking for a specific diagnostic test (allergy patch test) that I have to have done which wasn't available in some clinics that I called before.

So I called Dubai London Clinic to ask if it is available there. The receptionist went on and on that I need to book an appointment first. I asked her what is the point of me booking the appointment if they cannot perform this test. I said that I will only book an appointment if the test is available. She went again that I need to book an appointment and the doctor will tell me if they can do this test.

I refused to speak further with her and asked her to put me on the phone with someone else.

Then I spoke to a nurse who said she will ask the doctor and call me back. She called me a few hours later and said that the dermatologist said that I need to pay for consultation first.

Availability of diagnostic tests disclosed upon payment? I find this outrageous!!!

There are plenty of money hungry doctors in Dubai which is a BIG problem! However, I come from a culture where we pay for the healthcare by tax money and back home they don't take unnecessary tests and they don't investigate things that clearly are harmless.

Being in Dubai for many, many years I would suggest you AVOID the following clinics and hospitals (I will only mention the worst ones);

- Dr. Roze & Associates Dental Clinic on Jumeirah Beach Road. Sky high prices and the owner really hard sells unnecessary treatment.

- Prime Medical Clinic in Jumeirah Plaza. This clinic gives such a bad impression as it's torn down and the staff are very rude and unprofessional.

- The DentalSpa (that has actually commented above!). A friend of mine did veneers there and paid around 100,000 AED!! She wasn't happy with the result and the Dentist fully refused to redo the work. It ended up with my friend going to my dentist to fix it, hence she had to pay twice. She was made aware that the dentist at The DentalSpa also had put Veneers on several teeth which should have needed crowns. She learnt the reason is that Crowns takes essentially longer time to prepare for and is a lot more difficult than Veneers, hence inexperienced (and greedy) dentists tend to put Veneers rather than Crowns.

Personally I tend to stick to Scandinavian Doctors and Dentists as they have grown up with the healthcare model described above. They are also very honest (normally) and their education is in the forefront.

I hope this info helps and I really hope that some of you can avoid these places :)
