Will an internship help me land a job? Oct 26, 2007
Hello everyone!
I am currently in my senior year at Concordia university in Montreal, Canada majored in marketing. I just landed this internship at a small marketing firm in the city, and I will be there until I graduate (spring 2008). Based on your expertise, do you guys believe I will be able to find a promising marketing related job in dubai with this 6 month internship? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Omar :)

What's to say? An internship lets both parties see if they like each other, if they don't they go their separate ways.

Getting paid to come and work here is sure better than working in McDonalds for a summer though.

If you are getting paid, that's great. Most internships here don't pay, and most do not automatically offer a job after graduation.

It will definetely help you in the long run. Concentrate on gaining experience while you are working as an intern (and not just thinking of the next job). If you excel at what you do good things will follow.

Experience and initiative are quite valuable in any field.

Good luck.

It is a likelihood. Last company I worked in brought in three interns for a "trial" and all ended up being employed. it's hard to get good staff in Dubai and they use this internship business to find good people from overseas with no risk.

I've been looking at most entry level marketing jobs in Dubai and they mostly require at least 2 years of experience. Mind you the work i'm currently doing as an intern is quite intensive and I am being given large duties (haven't fetched coffee yet). So my question is if it's set in stone when they say "at least 2 years experience" or would they consider a candidate with a well-written CV and cover letter with less than 1 year experience?
Thanks again, you guys are great!

If you impress the interviewer, you will get a job without experience, as my buddies have done.
