about paying a years rent in full at one time???

Well generally you would get some sort of discount if you could manage to pay the years rent in advance....

But saves a lot on your utilities, food bills and shopping as you are left twiddling your thumbs for the rest of the year...

Since Dubai is generally filled with expats, the incidents of people leaving before the end of a lease is high.

Landlords want a years worth of rent to avoid issues surrounding those who simply flee.

It's just to protect their interests.

Correct, however, down in Abu Dhabi, 1 cheque is the norm, not the exception.
