I need to go jump through all hoops needed to get a driver's license in Dubai and have a question re. the eye exam: do they test both eyes separately, or is the exam administered with both eyes open? And what is the proficiency requirement - do you need a certain amount of vision in both eyes or will just one eye do?

My predicament is this - I am more or less blind in one eye (a cataract due to an injury). I can compensate for it and drive just fine - have been doing so for 10+ years in the US, Africa, Europe and Asia (I even play squash competitively). But I am not sure I'll meet the eye requirement if both eyes have to have a certain degree of acuity.

Anyone know or care to describe the details of the eye exam that they took for the Dubai drivers license?

I think it totallt depends on the facility you go to and what driver's license. The place I went to saw my US driver's license, didn't do any exam and filled out the form for me.

Cool - so there is hope! Was this an optician or one of the driving schools?
