Hi,
I saw this topic was covered about a year ago but I was wondering if anything had changed or anyone could give us further advice.
My husband and I are travelling overland - and over sea - from London to India, where I will be starting a volunteering placement in New Dehli. We do not want to fly for environmental reasons. We have to do this as cheaply as possible as I won't have an income for the next year!
The tricky bit is the last bit - we have been strongly discouraged going through Pakistan for security reasons. And so, we want to take a ferry from Iran to UAE, and then hitch a lift to Mumbai. I have heard that it is possible to do this on dhow boats... I know the conditions on the boats aren't very nice, but we are willing to suffer such hardships. What I need to know is:
1) it it possible? If so, from where do I go?
2) is it safe?
My husband speaks Egyptian Arabic, so that may be of help haggling on the boats?
I look forwarad to hearing your thoughts!
Thank you so much,
Masha
