Any ideas where I can buy one in Dubai? Tried the usual - DG and Jumbo but they just look at me blankly. No one seems to to understand what a skype or IP phone is??

Because Skype is blocked, so I don't think you can get it easily.

Skype 3 beta will work on Du and Tecom connections. My question is based on where I can get the handsets not if it works. Yes Etisialat block the IP port used for this and skype downloads but it will work on other connections.

They sell all kinds of them at CompuME at the Mall of the Emirates. Wired, wireless, combination VOIP/landline.

But not many people know about this. Only techie guys do. So the market/demand will be very low, that's why I guess there will not be many products/shops selling it. They won't keep the stock if noone buys it.

I have the Linksys skype phone but never use it because the quality is not as good as using a usb headset.

Or try Aramex Shop & Ship. A friend got a VOIP handset that way - no hassles from customs or anything.

I have used Skype here through DU - all good, slight delay but thats all.

Skype phone available in the networking section at DG Sharaf in Times Square.
