Hi, i have been offered a position in dubai.
I am coming from London - they are offering me £30,000 per annum
Is this much converted to dhiram? how much a month?

would this be enough to rent property?

Dhs 17,250 per month

You will have to be a bit more specific as to what your expenses are likely to be.

For instance a decent 2 bed apartment on SZR now going for 120k / PA

Is this salary all inclusive???

i will be coming over on my own..
will prob look to rent with someone else..

i am getting a lump sum to relocate, and am not yet sure what that would be

Medical
Local Transportation
Local Utilities
Telephone
School Fees

i get two flights home a yr 30 days hol
full medical travel, no kids so no need for school fees..

am waiting to hear about the lump sum amount....

would i live comfortably on this?

is it a v.low salary compared to alot of expats out there?
i will be working in IT support for a private equity investment house...thanks

It will depend on you, and where you choose to live, I wouldn't call it a fantastic salary, others here may like to advise though, because it is outside my particular field.

For an IT Support person however this is above average. With the flood of highly skilled south asian labor in the market usually those positions are paid half what you will be making.

Rent will be your biggest expense so if you are able to get a good deal there you should be fine.

Anyways my take 30,000 pounds PA in UK is a decent salary and 17+ is not bad here also.....

What Maad states is the truth.

When it comes to development (j2ee, c++ etc) and support roles (sun, cisco, MS, etc) there is a huge amount of qualified workers coming from Asia.

If you seek a position with a good package in IT then you have to look to senior or management roles - otherwise it seems to be quite low paid, unless perhaps you work for an expat company.

Otherwise it is better to work in the UK - where folk are paid based on the skill and experience and not country of origin / race - sounds harsh, but it is true.

However everyones miliege may vary.

well ive accepted a job paying £20,000 or AED130,000 a year.

its a sales job and i get 3 months living in a 4* hotel, thereafter i get a £12,000 cash sum to live, so i can share a villa and pay the extra, or get a cheap place and pocket the difference.

all travel and medical is paid by the company, as well as memberships to things to make me feel 'better'

the money isntgreat, but with the extra's, and the faxt the £20,000 is tax free, its quite good. i think!

For the two listed options your expectation is on the high side.

I agree, sometimes I think they're destroying the market by lowering the standard salary just to be in Dubai. We (IT profs) should be paid high!

One time my boss asked me if I had a friend who'd like to join for IT project manager role (5+ years exp). They're willing to pay ONLY $2000 + ticket & medical insurance (all inclusive) (which is about 7400 AED per month) because they said it's the same or slightly higher rate they're paying to other project manager (South Asian) in our company. I said in my head, you must be kidding! I didn't pass the job info to my friends.

Interestingly enough, the vast majority of expats (working in jobs) are not making close to 18K.

Huh?? Oops, guess it didnt come out right ... I meant the vast majority are NOT making close to 18 K (as in less than 18K not more). Im talking about the majority though -- there are lots making more, but majority no..

After all, in general 18K for a programmer/analyst level (1-7 years of exp) is more than good (higher than average) and one can still live decently (single/couple) with some savings. Unless specific skill/experience are involved.
