I need help! Dec 22, 2006
I have recently been informed that I have a career opportunity in Dubai. I know absolutely nothing about Dubai. Can anyone help me out? Cost of living? Monthly rent of 1 or 2 bedroom apt? Weather? Is English widely accepted? I currently live in USA near Denver, Colorado. Any info would be greatly appreciated

English is widely spoken here.

Rents are quite expensive but it depends on your package.

Weather in most months is hot, dry and humid. But right now, the weather is cooler and some rains too.

I think mod will transfer your post to Dubai Expat Help Forum. Anyway, welcome to DF!

When you say "quite expensive", what does that mean in USD? Will a 2 bedroom cost $1200 a month or am I way off? What other costs will be involved? How big is Dubai? Can I walk to where I need to go generally speaking?

For Geographic questions about dubai, wikipedia can help you more.

You can find $1200 per month for 2 bedroom flat exclusive of utility bills. You can walk around dubai if wish, but during the summer i doubt if you can do it.

For more informations, i would suggest you to click on the search buttons.

I appreciate your help. What is the typical cost of a dinner for two? Nothing fancy- just decent. Are taxis the typical mode of transportation? What kind of Public tranportation? Are most apts completely furnished? Obviously this would be a huge move for me. I went to Wikipedia but I'm really looking for something that is more interactive. Can you suggest a different web-site. Sorry, one more question- I'm a huge golfer, are there "public" or "daily fee" golf courses? Green fees?

You don't ask lots of questions. Teacher will not be happy for that. :D

Dinner for two, it depends on which restaurants you'll dine in. You may budget around Dhs.500/- all inclusive for an average restaurants. Taxis and busses are the mod of transporatation here.

Some of the apartments are fully furnished and some don't. There are golf courses here in Dubai. Try to check on the Dubai expat help or Dubai Guide.

Scooter, the best place to find the information is Expat Help Forum here. But no worries Captain Obvious will move this thread in a flash.

Anyway, I doubt very much you will get a 2 bedroom for $1,200 (that is compatable to say Denver lifestyle).

Dubai's wheather is colorado wheater except reverse (for every cold day in colorado there is a 100+ day here).

In terms of living expenses think big city, NYC, San Fran, Chicago, Denver, LA (except for restaurant/prepared food). Good luck.
