Job offer coming - what's equivalent UAE salary? Aug 18, 2008
Hi all,

Just joined the forum, as I've got a job offer on the way from my current employer to go out to Dubai. Whilst I'm told they're offering me the job, I've no salary offer yet (HR's working on it).

I've read loads of info on this forum and others about salaries, but as is always the case, none answer my specific question.

I'm 29 and work in telecoms sales. I'm single and have a nice house in a nice part of the country and can afford a nice car and a few holidays a year. Whilst I certainly don't see myself as rich, I'm comfortable. I earn about £65k base and another £10k bonus/commission. My main hobby and hence also expense is cars and track days.

Can anyone suggest roughly what sort of income I will need for a comparable standard of living? I'm hoping I'll have more disposable income in Dubai than the UK - is this realistic?

I know one of the main expenses is accomodation, and I'd initially look to rent a 2 bed apartment in a modern block, with local amenities nearby other similar expats, fairly central in the city. From the research I've done, I'm hoping c. 140k AED pa is the ballpark for this sort of place. Is that realistic? From research, there's plenty in this price bracket - I'm just not sure if they're the kind of place I'd want to live or not?

Thanks for your help - great forum.

Update:

I've just spoken with HR and am being offered 460k AED (inc. base, housing, car) and 110k AED commission, plus 27k AED to cover relocation expenses. Having just spent half an hour analyzing this, I'm thinking it's a decent offer, and should afford me a better standard of living over in Dubai than in the Thames Valley are of the UK. Does this sound correct? Any thoughts on how that salary in Dubai relates to the UK?

Any input much appreciated.

sounds ok but don't factor in the commission at all... more sales people get burnt with the promise of earning big commissions here the promise rarely connects with the reality on the ground

ask them what kind of booked revenue (forget budget-- it is all made up) your territory or segment has locked in over the last 12 mos. get the commission/budget added to contract. lots of goal post moving goes on here you couldn't believe...
