We've just found out about moving to Dubai. And we will visit there to check out the housing next weekend. My husband will work in Internet city and we have a baby. Where will be good area to live? and where is the popular location for expats?

Around that area you have Dubai Marina, Greens, Gardens, Meadows. Dependant on your budget and requirements. Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah are other options.

It all depends on your budget and what is most important to you. If you live in Jumeira/ Umm Seqeim you would be very close to many schools and nurseries, a variety of supermarkets and shopping complexes and Jumeira Beach with easy access to Sheikh Zayed Road and a quick car ride to most major malls. Traffic is also a consideration and travel time to and from venues such as work and say school/nursery should be checked out at the times you intend to get where you are going-Dubai is funny that way, what can be a 15 minute car ride can be 45 minutes depending on the time of day. Although Jumeira can be pricey it can also be cheaper than some of the new areas such as Springs and Meadows (which some people describe as the Truman Show as the villas and streets are very nice and look the same, but having said that I have friends in these areas that wouldn't be anywhere else and just love it) if you opt for an older villa-built probably in the 80's though most people would say they are harder to come by. These villas offer more space inside and out. Also consider when you are looking at villas what appliances and furnishings you will have to purchase- things like ovens are not always standard and nor are curtains. There are also older villas in compounds that will probably give you access to a pool and possibly a gym-garden space is shared so having pets would be a no! You may also opt for apartment living which we have done in other countries with three kids-this is no problem if the apartment block has facilities like a pool as the kids need some kind of outdoor activity(and gym). My understanding is too that joining the Dubai Country Club isn't that costly per year and is another option. Good Luck and happy house hunting!
