Good morning all...

I am new to dubai..I just moved here and my family will join me soon. I have two small kids, 13 and 17 years old. One of them has hepatitis. I want to ask if they can come and join school normally here? Are there any blood tests performed to children in schools on yearly basis or something or even upon entry and admission??

Normally you are not allowed to stay in the UAE as an ex-patriate if you have hepatitis. Blood tests are only performed when Children reach 18 years old.

Yes but if word gets out, they can perform a test if they want to.

How do you intend to fill the prescriptions for any medication required?

To be perfectly honest with you, this is risky and as Ian says how will you obtain medication. If for instance you have to visit a Doctor or Hospital, and I would think with this condition that is more than likely, then they are duty bound by law to report to the Authorities.

Now this may not seem fair to you, but thats what it is, and not a lot you can do about it.

I would think very carefully regarding this, because if you knowingly enter the UAE in the knowledge that one of your Children is suffering from Hepatitis, you are also breaking the law and may be prosecuted.

I have been asking some friends and they assured me that hepatitis is not in the banned disease list in the UAE (unless working in healthcare or food and bevereage industries)..

I had assumed it was also on the list of deportable diseases.

I am sure that I heard on the radio last week an interview with two people here in dubai that have hep C. They said that they are working in dubai and their wages are low so they cannot afford treatment, and they were asking for help and money. So I guess there are people in the UAE with hepatitis.

Your assumption is right.

Annn...I have seen many cases like that and I lost couple of good workers because they had Hepatitis.

I think the question you should ask, is which type of Hepatitis that is considered in the list of Deportable Diseases. If I am not mistaken, Hepatitis B and C have their own different cases.
