I'm driving my car from Abu Dhabi to the Phoenicia Hotel (Beniyas Square, Deira, Dubai). What's the best route?

I've looked through the Lonely Planet maps and found this route. This is the first time I've driven in Dubai so is this a reasonable & doable route? What landmarks can I look for?

1) Drive from Abu Dhabi on major highway.
2) Enter Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road.
3) Continue driving along road -- turns into Al-Qataiyat Road then Al-Garhound Road
4) Turn left onto Al-Maktoum Road. (Landmarks?)
5) Drive on Al-Maktoum until it reaches Al-Maktoum Hospital Road. (Landmarks? Do these roads meet? If not, what connects them?)
6) Turn left onto Al-Maktoum Hospital Road. (Landmarks?)
7) Drive a block or so to the Phoenicia Hotel (on the right, before the Entezary restaurant)

Question: While driving on Shaikh Zayed Road, is it faster & easier to turn left at Oud Metha Road and turn right onto Tariq ibn Ziyad Road and turn left at Al-Maktoum Road? Is it better to take this route than drive along al-Qataiyat & al-Garhoud? Is the traffic really heavy along Oud Metha & Tariq ibn Ziyad roads so the al-Q & al-G route is better?
