EXPAT- second hand furniture? and more questions Nov 14, 2009
Hi again!

We are moving to Dubai from Germany and would like to leave quite a bit of our German (cheapy IKEA things) behind. Our move will cost quite a bit and we thought we should just buy things when we arrive.

Is there a community of people coming and going whereby they advertise their items?

Do Villas come with Fridges and Stoves? What about laudry- washer and dryer?

Can anyone suggest a good British school and neighbouring area for a 6 year old?? We don't know where to get started in terms of what schools to look at!

How far away is the airport?

Thanks a bunch!!

Carrie :)

IKEA is here as well. for new/used stuffs check dubizzle.com classifieds or ad board at every Spinneys supermarkets.

apartments/villas vary from unfurnished to fully furnished to serviced. most economic is to buy a used but good condition. there are many expats are leaving. and you can get as low as 50% from new price.

don't know about it. but you can check first the last results of inspection/ratings given by govt education authority ( http://www.khda.gov.ae/en/home/default.aspx ). at least choose the one with Good or Outstanding rating. check also http://www.dubaifaqs.com/khda-school-inspections.php

1. Supermarket noticeboards, newspapers (Gulf News is the best), online - dubizzle.com.

2. If rented then usually yes. If bought then sometimes. Dryer not so common.

3. Dubai College (secondary only), DESS, JESS, Kings, regarded as top UK schools. Several more that are still good. Can be difficult to find a place.

http://www.dubaifaqs.com/kings-school-dubai.php - Umm Suqeim

4. From where? Germany? About 6000 km.

Dubai Airport in Deira. 20-40 mins drive from most places in Dubai but add 20 mins if bad traffic.
