Exchanging driving licence/importing art Jan 26, 2006
Hi,

1. Just wanted to know if it's true that if you hold an exchangable driver licence (like the UK) but you are holder of a different nationality from the licence (ie Italian) they might force you to take the driver's test. I was told this by someone who used to live in Abu Dhabi about 2-3 years ago. She said hopefully Dubai would be different and/or the law could have changed. Any idea?

2. Is there any limit in the value of a painting you take with you? No, I am not bringing the Picasso's with me, haha! But I do have a few paintings, which true value I ignore (have been in a family for many years), but have to guess a price for insurance purposes (that would certainly be very inaccurate, but rather be on the safe side juts in case) but want to know if I have to pay taxes or have some trouble getting them into the UAE after certain amount. I wouldn't expect any to be more than say 20,000 Dhs (sorry to disappoint anyone who thought we were talking about serious megabucks art here!)

Cheers,

Julieta!
