UAE FIGURE SKATING SELEBRATES 20 YEARS HISTORY!!!
The fist UAE figure skating team, was created in 1992 by former top-professional ice skater, current high-class coach, - Luda Kalenuk from Ukrain. The team had staged many ice skating shows and won many championships in UAE, US and Thailand.
In 2002 the annual UAE Open Figure Skating Championships provided an international gathering of amateur skaters. The Championship took place for the third time at Al Nasr Leisureland Ice Rink. There were 150 skaters between the ages of four and 45 from six local and visiting teams that were participating this year. Luda Kalenuk was a resident coach at Leisureland Ice Rink and organizer of the event. Figure skaters from Kuwait and Oman joined in the friendly competition, with teams from Al Nasr Leisureland, The Hyatt Galleria, Sharjah Women's Club and Abu Dhabi.
In 2005 there was an ice show in Dubai, organized by local team! For the eighth year in a row, the best ice skaters in the UAE settled at the Al Nasr ice rink in Al Nasr Leisureland from the 4th to the 8th of July 2005 for a spectacular show – MULAN after previous year’s success with "Wizard of OZ".
In 2006 more than 1,000 ice skaters from 25 countries and regions participated in the ongoing Skate Asia 2006 at The MIXc and the Shenzhen Gymnasium. There was also a team from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The team participated in Skate Asia since 2002.
In 2011 there was the Golden Cup Dubai Figure-Skating Championship open to the public. The competition featured around 100 skaters from 15 countries testing their mettle in a number of skating events – including some of the UAE’s top young talent. The Championship followed the rules of the International Skating Union, and was evaluated by master coaches and judges from Europe and the USA.
Abu Dhabi Figure Skating Team (ADFST) head coach, Noemi Bedo took 24 skaters from the ADFST and looked forward to the opportunity for her team members to display what they had been learning.
On 28-29 April 2012, the Golden Cup of Dubai Figure Skating Championship again took place in Al Nasr Leisureland ice rink, where over 150 international skaters from more than 20 countries descended on the city.
The event brought skaters from Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and many other countries. The Championship included one of the best junior skaters in the Middle East, Amira Abdul Moati, who represented UAE and competed for Dubai.
The event supported the Dubai Sport Tourism innovative program, giving great concern and intense efforts to the healthy lifestyle, amusement and new discovery of the UAE among tourists.
EMIRATI FIGURE SKATER TO MAKE HISTORY AT EUROPEAN CUP IN ITALY
The name Zahra Lari may not ring a bell offhand, but what she has achieved has surely ensured her a place in the annals of UAE sporting history. The 17-year-old Emirati became the first ever figure skater from the UAE to compete in an international competition when she took part in the European Cup in Canazei, Italy in 2012. More than 50 countries took part in the European Cup but Zahra's participation was understandably the talk of the town.
Training schedule
Zahra trains six days a week twice a day, before school and after. Before school she gets up at 4.30am and does off-ice exercise followed by on-ice training, running through routines and practicing.

Sharjah Ladies Club shines in figure skating
The Ice skating team of the Sports Department at Sharjah Ladies Club was able to win several awards and medals in the Desert Open Figure Skating Championship 2012 in Abu Dhabi. The team members participated in various categories of the competition, where they impressed the audiences and attendees, ranking 3rd place at the competition which lasted over two full days.
SLC team participated in several programs such as “Technical”, “Free style” and “Artistic”. Skaters showed their fluency in ice skating and showed their unique skills which impressed the audience and attendees. Therefore, the players were able to score 9 gold medals and 9 silver medals.
The Desert Open Figure Skating Championship 2012 was held at the Abu Dhabi Ice skating rink and lasted for two days. The competition witnessed a huge number of teams participating such as Al Nasr club team, Abu Dhabi ice skating team, as well as SLC ice skating team which scored 18 medals through the competition and ranking third place.
In August 2012, Ice Stars Skating has been opened.
Ice Stars figure skating and fitness club takes a challenge to form a junior UAE National Figure Skating Team. The challenge is taken to support the efforts of Dubai's government in establishing sport clubs for juniors as a source for talents.
The objective is in line with the vision of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for promoting sports in the emirate.
As part of figure skating coaching, Ice Stars Skating (ISS) offers choreography, gymnastics, ground training, and yoga to prepare junior ice skaters for international competitions.
ISS welcomes skaters of all levels, from beginner to international competitor, to pursue the sport of figure skating. ISS offers the opportunity to be trained and compete with international junior skaters, and the chance to perform in UAE annual competitions.
