Biography:

Marko Nastic is a Serbian DJ and one of the most famed East European techno DJ’s.
Born in 1979, he started mixing at his uncles DJ shop when he was 14. As 16 year old boy he was resident in a Serbian club. In 1996, he formed Teenage Techno Punks with his friend Dejan Milicevic. His first release was Earresistible Musick for a label of Slovenian techno heavyweights Umek and Valentino Kanzyani - Recycled Loops. At the end of 2004 he created his own label Recon Warriors, which was named the first Serbian techno label.

Serbian DJ Marko Nastic is the latest name to emerge from the European techno scene, following Slovenian Umek and Valentino Kanzyani from Slovenia and Petar Dundov from Croatia into the international forum. Still only in his twenties, Nastics whirlwind three-deck sets, which take in tribal and tech-house, electro and techno as well as his clubby productions for Umek and Kanzyanis Earrisistible label, have seen him make the transformation from respected local spinner to a sought-after DJ who plays all over the world. DJing and music were always a part of Markos background: even in his pre-teen years, he was fascinated with synthesisers and drum machines and his uncle used to play Italo Disco in the 80s on Belgrade radio. This made Nastic, who was in his early teens, think about the possibilities of DJing and, when techno started filtering through to Serbia in the early 90s, his older brothers turned him on to it. However, just as techno music was becoming popular in Serbia, the Balkan conflict escalated. Marko admits that he was too young to realise the gravity of the situation, but, like every area of life, it also impacted on his world. Things were tense, but a lot of it probably went over my head, he admits. But it meant that buying records was very difficult and the selection wasnt good. My friends went abroad to buy records and some friends that lived in London sent us material. Things have got much better since Milosevic was ousted, were free to travel and the scene in Belgrade is stronger. Still only 14, Nastic had just landed a job at Belgrades dance music shop, Happy People, where his interest in dance music was allowed to flourish. I started mixing using Technics in the shop and thats also where I made friends with people in the club scene, he explains. Nastic met Dejan Milicevic, his future partner in the Teenage Techno Punks DJ collective and, by the time he was 16, in 1997, he had landed a residency at Belgrades leading underground club, Industria, together with Milicevic. He also became the clubs programme director, strengthening his collaboration with Gordan Paunovic and Belgrades other important electronic music DJs and promoters. Industria set the standard for clubbing and DJing in the Serbian capital and Markos next project, promotional team Teshka Mashinerija also began at Industria, with a string of exceptionally successful parties. Nastic stayed at Industria for four years, before moving to the Mondo club for a year and then he resided at the Incognito club in Novi Sad. As his DJing developed, he was a regular feature at virtually all significant techno events in Belgrade or Serbia in the 1990s. By the age of 25, he had played together with global techno luminaries like Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Kevin Saunderson, Green Velvet, Adam Beyer and Billy Nasty and, like the adoration afforded to Umek in Slovenia, he had developed a near religious following at home in Serbia. One by one, the clubbing scenes in neighbouring countries became aware of Nastics unparalleled DJing skills, and his distinctive three deck style, as well as his ability to mix up everything from Croydon-style tech house to rumbling Resse-bass style techno meant that he became a regular guest in Bosnia, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria. Although electronic music in general took off in the former Eastern Bloc states from the mid-90s, Marko believes that techno is still the most popular style in Eastern Europe. Techno just keeps on getting bigger and bigger, he enthuses. Theres no doubt that Umek, together with Valentino Kanzyani gave the East European scene a higher profile internationally. Given their close links, its no surprise that the two Slovenian DJs signed Nastic to their Recycled Loops and Earrisistible labels for a six EP and album deal. The first two releases, Devil In My Pants and Lets Get High, fused Markos love of dubby, tribal house with pumping party techno and were even supported by mainstream DJs like Fergie and Judge Jules on Radio 1. Chris Micali has earned and retained an impressive fanbase in underground circles thanks to his driving progressive house music, spanning over several years in the scene. Consistently he manages to fuse familiar progressive stylings with a uplifting, melodic and groovy twist. On this double offering of ´Wish I Loved You´ and ´Strings Of Life´, Chris collaborates once more with Dubai-based producer and dj Ali Ajami. As a production outfit, they have been responsible for some highly impressive remix contributions to Nu Republic and Bedrock Records.

´Wish I Loved You´ is a tough, techy affair which kicks off with great promise. A filtered and heavily-effected vox loop hinting to the title of the track builds relentlessly to the first break, with some bright pads joining the fun before a wickedly funky bassline augments proceedings. With an introduction which promises great things, the track is adversely affected with the introduction of an electro synth element, which for my tastes sounds dated and lacking in adventure. The breakdown attempts to realise the early potential of the track with great use of the vocal phrases, a swirling arpeggiated synth line working its way around the soundscape and some bold musical textures. When the kick and bassline spring back to life, ´Wish I Loved You´ takes on a slightly new approach before reverting back to an electro-infused closure to what is a decent, yet instantly forgettable piece. From the perspective of the dancefloor, what it lacks in creativity and innovation is partially made up for with undeniable production quality, which I´m sure will sound impressive on high-quality soundsystems.

´Strings Of Life´ continues the pace set by the A-side, with a punchy kick and driving bass kicking this off promisingly before a crescendo leaves a dark, melancholic meandering. This is juxtaposed with the reintroduction of the highly infectious and groovy bassline pattern from before, now joined by some higher square-lead melodies sharing the same key sequence. The top line hook offers a welcome focal point to the track, giving the piece a sense of purpose and distinction. The main breakdown develops this lead line, with some changes in direction to the bass now offering an epic tinge to a track that is essentially very bass-driven, as is much of Micali´s work.

The duo of Ajami and Micali have forged a solid reputation with previous production collaborations, and while neither track stands out as being exceptional, ´Strings Of Life´ is certainly the stronger of the two. Both are capable of working effectively on a dancefloor near you, and will undoubtedly slot nicely into the boxes of many.

Paul Hamilton & Friends was rumoured in Dubai since 2005, but before it was actually put on paper as an official event, it was basically just a simple night were hundreds of clubbers and friends would spread the word for a good night out in Dubai. July 2007, this night went down alongside the massive events and DJ line ups hosted at the former Trilogy Night Club thanks to his excellence and Trilogy former manager Marc Wise, and what a venue to kick off with, one of the top 50 Clubs in the world. It was the first monthly event in Dubai hosted by a local DJ attracting an average of 600 Clubbers with the best nights having over 900 Clubbers through the doors on various occasions.

Chicago house is the earliest style of house music. The term "House music" is thought to have originated in North America at a Chicago, USA, nightclub called The Warehouse. While the origins of the name are unclear, one of the most popular beliefs is that the term can be traced to the name of that club.
House is a descendant of disco, which blended soul, R&B, funk, with celebratory messages about dancing, love, and sexuality, all underpinned with repetitive arrangements and a steady bass drum beat. Some disco songs incorporated sounds produced with synthesizers and drum machines, and some compositions were entirely electronic; examples include Giorgio Moroder late 1970s productions such as Donna Summer's hit single "I Feel Love" from 1977, and several early 1980s disco-pop productions by the Hi-NRG group Lime.

House was also influenced by mixing and editing techniques earlier explored by disco DJs, producers, and audio engineers like Walter Gibbons, Tom Moulton, Jim Burgess, Larry Levan, Ron Hardy, M & M and others who produced longer, more repetitive and percussive arrangements of existing disco recordings. Early house producers like Frankie Knuckles created similar compositions from scratch, using samplers, synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines.

The hypnotic electronic dance song "On and On", produced in 1984 by Chicago DJ Jesse Saunders and co-written by Vince Lawrence, had elements that became staples of the early house sound, such as the 303 bass synthesizer and minimal vocals. It is sometimes cited as the 'first house record',although other examples from the same time period, such as J.M. Silk's "Music is the Key" (1985) have also been cited.ect....
