Dahi calls for blocking of YouTube XPRESS

Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Association, has called for blocking the YouTube website.

He said the video-sharing website includes indecent material that influences the young generations towards delinquency, the Arabic press reported.

He said that the association is launching a campaign for this purpose, as its duty is to protect the youth. He added that the association will be contacting etisalat in this regard.

Be a good parent and watch over your kids' internet activity, Khalas! That is, assuming that you yourself have solid enough moral values to avoid such immoral sites.

These sites don't just pop on the screen on their own anyway unless you look for them.

I can't believe that I once thought that this guy could be a good person to head the DP. The last few things he's been quoted for saying in the media have just been utterly backwards-thinking or Just Plain Stupid (tm). At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if he supports female circumcision.

My vote to No ..

Blocking websites doesn't make any sense..and it is not going to stop the youth from picking up wrong things..and how far will they block it...?

this is silly...i mean how they will they protect their youth by all this blockin sh!t ,,,if they want to preserve their culture & prevent them from indecent stuff..first they gotta take care of local kids here before they point on technology.

take a walk in al bustan centre or bin sougat centre..or perhaps any mall in dubai.. u definitely can spot a couple of guys in kandora following and flirting with girls and vice versa...

as naruto said.. it depends on the person using they bl00dy keyboard!

i watch car reviews, drag racing clips, car stunts and comedy clips when bored..

it would be best in a neutral interest to block access to those certain contents on youtube that they consider is indecent rather than locking down the whole site, just the way they have blocked the contents on youtube that requires age verification..

  :?

what can be more pathetic then a chief of police running a campaign to ban a website...i mean this guys has really nothing better to do? this is worse than in the communist block having only one channel to watch for a few hours per day...

what this place would need is scholarship for all local kids in european/western countries. after a year or 2 bring them back and see how things would change within a blink of an eye.

What are you mental or something? Youtube was built on stupid user generate content, that's why it was/is so popular. That's why the dude who made it (just so he could share his stupid videos with his friends) sold it for $1.65 billion to Google a few years ago. It hasn't changed.

And to try and ban youtube is just stupid. There are hundreds of thousands of videos uploaded every week. Are the UAE police going to hire hundreds of people to view each one? Not to mention that there are thousands of other video sharing sites out there.

Wanna ban youtube? Have fun in the dark ages UAE.

PS: They also ban flickr, the photo sharing website. WTF? So what if 0.001% of people put up naked photos of themselves, most people don't, and you are doing a disservice to the UAE by preventing access to it. Here is a tip, if you do a Google Image Search for 'naked ladies' you will see boobs. OMG, why don't they ban Google too? Then the UAE internet will be just DEWA and www.government.ae. Morons.

Good luck integrating with the rest of the world.

Hehe, time to buy a 42-inch monitor just to enjoy the thumbnails, 'cos the actual source pages are blocked.

Thats the size I'm viewing right now...ok 37 inch then. And I'm not limited to thumbnails...I can view them colossal boobs as if I were between them ;)

Size DOES matter :D

Just in the news:

UAE clamp on YouTube

DUBAI: The UAE said yesterday it was blocking access to some YouTube content but denied it was imposing a full blackout on the popular video-sharing website.

The announcement comes after Dubai's police chief Dhahi Khalfan Tamim called for a ban on YouTube, reportedly among the top 10 most popular sites in the UAE, charging that it "incites hatred" and violated religious sensitivities.

In a statement, the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority said it had not received any request to block the site but that it would prevent access to certain content that breached its Internet access policies.

Its prohibited content categories include gambling, pornography, content which is offensive to religions or terror-related.

Banning things is the best way to create a cohesive society. Just ask East Germany circa nineteen eighties.

Indeed so. I'm having a difficulty here;

Received a job offer and just finished my (succesful) phone interview for a career on the Caribbean at Dutch Antilles Airlines. Can start ASAP.

Dubai implies to takes away my major joy (YouTube) and a piece of general freedom ;)

Now what to do...Ban Dubai and head off for the Caribbean?

I might have to let the UAE go after two months of applying without any feedback from any of those companies I applied to...

I'm gonna miss you guys :pirate: (but I will never leave this forum as it amuses me greatly)

For the record: I agree 110%.

Basically the government is trying to 'govern' its people and among them the parents and their children by prohibiting to view any explicit content on YourTube.
So they take responsibility for your kids actions. As if you parents out there can't handle that for yourself!

If this happened in Europe or the States, some of the biased population/visitors on Dubai Forums would put out a rant about its people (parents in this case) to lack decency and parental governance...

Aint it strange for you guys to see not one single Westerner does that kind of talk?

Enough said. Just my 2 euro-rants

Let's say it easer:
Untill egss makes sperm, men will look for "SIX". In a real with partner or for solo by viewing videos.

So youtube is NOT REASON. It's just instrument, a consequence.
