yup, Pofak Oman use to be 80% of our daily diet

Hey dnt forget the 1996 UAE football team, which made it to the Asia cup final. Entry to the stadia was always free cos some rich guy bought all tha tickets

And at half-time everyone would run onto the pitch to get bottles of water. Good memories those...

can't believe the photos of the creek and Shk Zayed road - that's amazing. I do remember when the marina and everything over there didn't exist.

My very first visit to Dubai was in the mid 1970’s, where I was part of the ‘New Dubai Colour TV Studio’ Project which upon completion launched Channel 33 from the new studios in 1977, still there adjacent to the British Council and Library in Bur Dubai.

A precursor to the studio development was the construction of several transmitting and relay stations, one of which was built on the peak of Jabal Hatta, close to the Omani border, to relay Dubai’s TV and Radio signals on to the Indian Ocean coast and into Oman, the UAE air force blew the peak of the mountain off and concrete was flown up by helicopter and dropped onto the blown off peak in such quantities to create a plateau, until it was considered safe to land the helicopter, once this was achieved, construction personnel were flown to and from their place of work until completion.

The bombing of Jabal Hatta caused an incident between the UAE and Oman, Oman initially claimed the site of the peak to be in their territory, it went on for some time and the site was regularly visited by the Omani Air Force monitoring progress, but then the dispute got resolved and it was agreed the site was in fact in UAE territory and not Omani.

From where a narrow path leads to the Relay Station at grid ref: 24°44’36.62”N 56°04’53.39”E

Do you remember the motorised directional aerials you needed in those days to receive other states television, Aramco being a firm favourite from Dhahran in SA?

We had one of those motorised antennas and we couldn't wait for the summer to come as it was the only time we could get Aramco 2 I think it was called. Ah the good old days. Now I have almost a 1000 24 hr channels and maybe around 5 actually watchable.

Hated wimbeldon and horse racing season though as all programing was cut short to broadcast those live !

I remember being taken shopping in Karama and Satwa High Street back in 1988. Open stalls and 'bakkala' style lock up shops selling knock off goods just as they do today!

I also remember driving for what seemed like ages into the wilds of nowhere to get to the Trade Centre tower! I organised a parachute stunt into the main entrance in 1992 as there were no buildings around it and a clear approach for the skydiver down an avenue of palm trees...

Taking a cab from the Hyatt Regency to the old DNATA building in Deira in 1989...and having an accident at all 3 sets of traffic lights on the way! The driver kept apologising as we had to wait for the police each time.
