Weekly Car Accident May 03, 2009
At least once a week there is an accident on the back road of my apartment building in the space palce and its always for the same reason.

There is only one left turn lane but there is always some idiot who wants to make a left from a lane that is designated for straight driving only and ends up making a left against oncoming traffic coming from the opposite side. The signals are set that the left lane sits on red while straight driving lanes are green.

Why are people so impatient that they take such risks at the expense of other people's lives? If it was a mistake and a left was intended, then why not go to the next u-turn, and if it wasn't then get in line with the rest of the drivers who are doing the right thing.

And as usual, the ambulance is there.

True, but this is the one I have a view of. Hear the brakes, hear the collison and see the accident, police, ambulance. So far there appears that no one suffered any major injuries as no one has ever left in an ambulance (but I haven't seen ALL the accidents). Maybe RTA will do something with the timing of the lights when someone is laying in their own blood.

I have found downtown Abu Dhabi to be much worse for this than Dubai. When I lived there I saw people making left turns from the 3rd lane from the turning lane sometimes. That's right, it's a 4 lane road with a 5th turning lane and people are turning from 3 lanes over from where they should be. Maniacs.

Plus it just slows down traffic because everyone is holed up waiting for this moron (in a Hummer or Cruiser) to get across to where he should be.

All good actually. Thanks.

Should get an LOI this week from another company... but it's a toss up between signing up for another 2 years or heading home. Leaning towards home at the moment.

... but, my colleague in the same situation (they terminated all of us) just got an offer of 48K pm. Would I stay for that??? Even if my mum was dying I'd bloody well think about it. :-)

The first exit out of my building onto the main road, leaves me smack in front of a signal. Now if I have to turn left from the 5th lane, its practically impossible to waltz 4 lanes to reach the 5th turning lane, before I reach the signal. And with the closure of Saalam St, there's added work load on the adjoining roads, so traffic is normally choc a block. Inevitably one is forced to take an extreme turn from the 3rd or 4th lane.

Here's a suggestion. Drive straight ahead, work your way over the lanes and take the next U turn. A bit more safe I would think.

It would take me eternity to reach anywhere this way.
By the time I finish clearing all the signals my date will be READY and waiting, and I lose the chance to nag about how long women take to get ready! No way!
