Having met Dr Omar bin Sulaiman he is one of the nicest people and was so surprised by his actions that caused him to be removed from the position of Governor of DIFC. I would have to say that he got caught up in thinking that rewarding himself 50.5 million AED was an entitlement he gave himself. He has held some lofty positions and one can assume those positions came with some lofty salaries, along with bonuses. He did very well for himself over the years and that is why he was appointed the Governor of DIFC (which is equivalent to being the US Treasurer).

Did he take the saying "greed is good" from the movie Wall Street a bit too seriously and didn't stay around to watch the ending?

Sometime back while he was a guest at the all inclusive, fully paid 2 star desert resort, compliments of the Dubai Police, his family came forward to offer to repay his "bonus", leaving one to assume that he couldn't come up with the money. Did he think that he would eventually get a "pass" and return home? Obviously, that not being the case, he must have decided it was easier to "find" the money and return it than having to spend another day in his private suite. So he's back home, no bail posted, returning the money would appear to confirm that there was "wrong doing" on his part and he is still under investigation. I guess those sitting in the 1 star city facilities (group rates apply) for 4 months for spitting on the street will have to wait for their spit to be analyzed to determine that it was actually their spit and will be sentenced to 1 year in jail and deportation.

Dubai: The former head of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Omar Bin Sulaiman, has been released after he repaid the money he was accused of expropriating through giving himself “unjust bonus payments”, the office of the Dubai Public Funds Prosecution said on Thursday in a statement released by the Dubai Media Office.

Attorney General of Dubai Essam Al Humaidan said Bin Sulaiman was released after he made a payment of Dh51.5 million to the Dubai Government.

The Attorney General clarified that these funds were to cover the money that Bin Sulaiman was accused of paying himself as bonuses. It was not bail, he said.

Al Humaidan said his office had not yet decided whether Bin Sulaiman’s case should be referred to court. This decision will be made after investigations are completed, he added.

The former DIFC Governor is being investigated in connection with alleged irregularities involving more than Dh50 million in bonus payments.

Bin Sulaiman, who held a number of other positions, was removed from his post as DIFC Governor in November.

It was for all our MP's who were on the take

giving back what was not yours is obviously the way to go nowadays. Next it will be "if you say sorry for that murder we will release you"

So if I reverse slowly up the Sheikh Zayed Road, will they take back the speeding fine?
