Oh dear!

UMM AL QUWAIN — Umm Al Quwain has decided to close down all bars and nightclubs in the emirate from May 1.

More than 25 nightclubs, which serve liquor and entertain guests with live music and dance performances, will be shut down across the emirate.

Colonel Sultan Al Shweikh, Director-General of the emirate’s police, and a number of police officers, met with managers of hotels and nightclubs to inform the latter about the order
on Tuesday.

Colonel Sultan Al Shweikh asked the hotel managers to sign a copy of the order and commit themselves that they would not flout the directive, issued on the instructions of the leadership.

Those who flout the order would face stringent legal action, he said.

Dance performances, loud music and DJs have been banned. But companies and people in groups can hold lunch and dinner parties with prior permission, provided that no music is played. Such gatherings must, however, split by 12 midnight.

Colonel Sultan Al Shweikh reminded the managers about the regulations laid down by the Economic Department for hotels about receiving and accommodating guests. Rooms, he clarified, are only reserved for families.

If a man is accompanied by a woman, they should produce a document to prove their legal relationship.

Wow!!!

What a turnaround!

UAQ will lose a lot of income they depend on if that goes into effect.

The directive only mentioned bars and nightclubs. Not sure if that includes our beloved bottle shop!!

Thats what happens when you accept Saudi money (remember Sharja). Don't be surprised to see it in Dubai soon. Sh Mo has already been to Saudi a couple of times to get money.

Nah...!!

At this stage, no money in the world would make Dubai agree to shut down their bars and night clubs. If they agree, that's practically self destructin!

This latest decision from UAQ may just be to please the conservatives. They may not strictly enforce it. Years ago, I heard Ajman announced the same thing, but they never followed through with it!

How in the hell can you deny a man and a woman their right to mingle. I think its absurd.

What a world we live in....

Because mingling can lead to fornicating …. What’s the matter with you Robby? Don’t you know that??

Anyway, here is another funny item about men and women in the Gulf:

Can't salute a woman, policeman tells female officer in Kuwait

Staff Report

Published: April 22, 2009, 12:07

Kuwait: A policeman's refusal to salute a female police officer prompted the woman to file a complaint.

The female officer works at the General Traffic Department and when she pulled up the policeman for not saluting her, he replied saying it is below his ‘dignity’ to salute her because he is a man and she is a woman, reported Al Dar daily.

Rather unfortunate that the bad behaviour of Ex-patriates has caused the police to take this action. At least it should take UAQ back to the "pleasant sleepy hollow" that it used to be.
For all you happy law breakers that like to visit the Baracuda, it remains to be seen if it will be affected.

What about the prohibition of dancing, music and simply speaking with someone of the opposite gender?

All that will be left is for loads of men and boys to drive miles out into the desert - what is it you actually do out there? Bit suss if you ask me.
