Not quite there, but moving quite fast in that direction

You just got to love the spin being put on these stories, like the Visa's were being ruduced because it is cheaper for us and will be more streamlined ???

And this is "not to impose extra burden on consumers" ...right.

I would maybe think about reading what you have to say if you were pating the same amount as 80% of the population does. If you pay at all, how many have I see these niquabed "mamas" crying and begging in the mudeers office that the 15,000 dhs bill is to much for them to pay. And the mudeer then ask how much can you pay and goes about almost totaly wrting that bill .
off.

You and people with your mentality are going to be the catalyst of your own doom. Like I said if you don't heed now unfortunately the words of the Late Shk Rashid will becoming a self full filling prophecy.

And what acting "british" ??? So anyone who states the obvious is British in your eyes ?!...Right

Every man and his dog has been screaming for months that the residency laws of the UAE need to be more favourable for Dubai to stage a recovery.
It is one of the easiest things to change and yet the advice is being ignored.
Kid, please have a word to Sheikh Khalifa for us before it is too late.

Fully agree Benwj.
In fact its been almost strange why a country that has experienced the largest property price decline in the world in the last 2 years has -
1. Not adopted more accomodating residency laws to entice expats to come here
2. Made getting a residency visa more difficult - particularly for property owners - two years ago buying a property meant you could get a 3 year investment visa I believe - now its 6 months.

This is in my opinion either extremely strange or completely stupid.

Generally speaking, laws that are applied in one emirate eventually spreads to all the other emirates also ? Or will it stay localized ?

Well before they go about a price hike, why don't they educate people about being more energy efficient. Like not having malls/eateries etc Arctic, if they knocked the ac's all down a bit, that in itself would save a tonne of cash.

Telling people not to water their driveways - use a broom!

Also perhaps if they use more energy saving materials in construction as well.

As per usual they go about it all the wrong way.

They raise prices for a segment of the population; yet water is supposedly free for another segment. How on earth will that encourage less consumption ?

Agree Chocs particularly on the how cold they keep the malls and particularly the cinema areas. I have to take a jumper if I want to watch a movie which is nuts.

Its also fascinating that a country that wastes this amount of naturaly resources and has the largest carbon footprint on earth (per capita) is designing Masdar (the "green" city) and getting the global environmental agency (I forget their name) to locate their headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Are they deluded? They just need to change their ways a bit and it will make a significant difference.

Trust a South Indian to be k***** a** when even regular a********* refrain from doing so....

The living cost in Dubai for the quality of life, opportunities to earn money, savings potential, unbiased governance, extremely safe environment, lowest cost of living totally justify the price hike. The price of Water and Electricity infact can be raised 500% also, so that these precious elements are protected from abuse and ensure all consumers get awareness of protecting Mother Earth. Hail the leadership of Dubai and UAE and I wish them Long Life. Compared to no electricity and paying huge tariff in India, UAE is a great place.
