MCL, did you know it's sometimes much easier to open up with complete strangers than with your family. The fear of embarrassment (or maybe even repercussions) is far less!

Close friends are the best though, if you have them. Mine have almost always been girls, strange! That's friends, not girlfriends in a s*xual way.

And it’s a beautiful lie if you think everything will always stay the same.

To put it straight, isn't it just a description of the sense of insecurity that everybody has, more or less? It's normal, isn't it?

County??? As in Smalltown, USA?

Today people have 2, 3 or 4 careers in a lifetime. How wonderful that is because they get to try things that they wanted to. Obviously your father is of the mind that you have to be what you thought you wanted to be until the day you die. Where is it carved in stone that you have to do one thing all your life to support yourself? I assume your father has longevity where he works, which is commendable. But why don't you ask him if there was ever a time in his life that he really wanted to being doing something else? And if he did, what stopped him?

You don't need your parents permission to grow up. And if the money spent on your education is an issue, tell them you will pay them back.

A lot of parents grew up with huge financial insecurity, they don't want their kids to suffer the same way hence their terror at the thought that their children may not have a stable life (including job!).

I'm not defending it, merely acknowleding. As Bora says, you have to talk them out of it :D

p.s. -there are counties in UK as well as USA ;)

I getting this feeling I'm wasting my life, planning for my future, spending way too much time focussing on my career...for what? Some dollars in my wallet?
I love sports, adventure sports etc. I would probably be happiest as a coach or a PE teacher, or someone organizing mountain hiking/biking expeditions or sailing trips.
By profession I'm a finance guy, but it's just not satisfying....I'm in a quandry and just don't know what to do........[/quote]

Aye. Similar situation to you.

LOL. We're in the realms of fantasy now BB (nice cup size, not too big!) :joker:

I was just demonstrating some well known Cockney rhyming slang, Robby and DD are 'away with the fairies' (no gay connotation implied).
