We'd like to thank Dubai Forum moderators who very kindly allowed us to post our appeal for donated clothes for workers, and the Dubai Forum members who supported our Labour Camp Relief project. The project has been successfully completed, and here is a brief report for Dubai Forum members who took interest in this cause.
Creative Majlis launched an emergency relief project for workers who lost all their belongings in a camp fire two weeks ago, on13 July 2006, the day we heard about the tragic incident, as part of our ongoing 'Help Expats' initiative.
After assessing the needs of the affected workers by meeting them personally, we had compiled lists of affected workers and their needs.
Within a week, more than 500 cloth items - from t-shirts and shorts to shalwar kameez and trousers - had been received at the Creative Majlis collection points in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. More than 400 cooking utensils and over 1,000 kg of rice and wheat flour were also arranged for the workers. All of the clothes and aid items were distributed to the affected workers, using the lists compiled by their volunteers to ensure that every affected worker received a share of the aid. We made a total of three trips to distribute aid at the camp site - on 20, 21, and 28 July 2006.
