Satellite/ Cable channels - UAE Clampdown Apr 20, 2009

This is an on-off issue coming up at least twice every year. I have seen the dish TV package at a friend's place in Oman - and the package is amazing - +160 channels at about 20dhs a month. Minimum satellite/cable packages (pehla, etc) start at around 70dhs. showtime is even more ridiculously priced. I was also informed that there are several providers in countries like India and the cut-throat competition has made it very affordable for the citizens.

Wish we could have something here instead of the monopoly. They will never accept that. The easiest answer to end piracy is the make the pirated product more affordable/accessible for citizens.

True why pay 150 a month when you can get one of these "boxes" for as little as 250 or 300.

The whole media keeps shouting about piracy. Why would I buy an album when only one song is worth listening to. Why do I have to pay for 90 channels when I really only watch five. Why should I pay so much for a DVD when I will only watch it once.
