I find this very scary indeed that firearms can be obtained so easily. I dread to think of the consequences of this in the coming months:

The article says that people with a criminal record or a history of mental illness are denied. That's stricter than many other countries. What I find scary is countries where people with a history of mental illness can obtain fire arms. Don't you think?

It's mentality of the people who want a gun 'because they can', but for no other valid reason. At the exhibition fathers were actively encouraging their sons to pick up and play with guns - hardly teaching responsible firearms use.

While I think getting the license is too easy, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions yet. Most Canadian provinces have high numbers of hunting gun ownership and Canada seems to be doing just fine.
