UAE - taking in all the emirates - 180,000. The majority were here during the construction boom working as laborers.

UAE - taking in all the emirates - 180,000. The majority were here during the construction boom working as laborers.

You should take a walk in Naif Road area and see how many establishments are now Chinese operated.

I'm not saying that there are NO Chinese in Dubai, but the majority were here for construction as an agreement was made with the UAE and China during the construction boom. With the halt of projects and cancellations in all the emirates, aside from Abu Dhabi, many, many laborers returned to China. I doubt the number ever reached hundreds of thousands, which is far greater than 180,000 total in the UAE in 1996, which number probably continued to climb over the next few years, but has since been drastically reduced.

There are actually currently over 210,000 Chinese nationals in the UAE working in not just the construction industry, but in technology and trades.
