Ok, I have to say that if Scotland counts as a country, then so would each of the Emirates would count as a country!
You just can't count Scotland as seperate!!

But here's a question. Would you count Gibraltar as a seperate country?? (for those who don't know, Gibraltar is a small "country" on the south coast of Spain which belongs to Britain.

I think we should apply the rule if it has a cricket or a Rugby team, then it should count as a country. Scotland almost has a cricket team, and they do have a rugby team.

If you're going to go by that rule - pick a real sport. Cricket??? That's right up there with curling.

Hey curling is a real sport!

I think we should have really sat down at the beginning of this thread to decide what constitutes a country, and what counts as a province of a country.
For example, are England & Scotland seperate countries, or is the country Great Britain (because thats what my passport says!).

this was meant as a light hearted thread considering we've had so many heavy ones recently.

I guess I should have qualified this more. So we'll use ISO standards, if the country is listed here and you've been in the country (airports do not count) then you count it.

technically you are right...as china has made hk and macau a S.A.R region...(special administrative region)...but it still considers itself autonomous and pretty much self sufficient...i guess having all the casinos there is making Macau a serious contender with the tourist dollars...

Good thing that countries in Europe are so tiny...I once did 5 countries in one day. Does that count for extra points?
