Masked Men Robbed Physio
England cricketers' end-of-tour celebrations came to a harrowing conclusion as four masked men carried out a knife-point robbery.
The men, wearing balaclavas, had entered the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Sydney, forced staff to the ground and demanded money from the safes.
When their bid was foiled, they turned their attention to the England squad's physiotherapist Dean Conway, who was making a phone call in the hotel lobby.
He had been in the hotel bar toasting England's Commonwealth Bank Series triumph with batsman Andrew Strauss, coaching staff members Matthew Maynard, Kevin Shine and Mark Garaway and head of security Reg Dickason.
Those five fled to another room when they saw the thieves break in.
During the robbery, Conway was forced to hand over his wallet and two mobile phones.
"Dean just happened to be in their line of sight, knives were produced and threats were made, but thankfully he was not hurt," said an England spokesman.
:: England players and staff left Australia early evening yesterday on two different flights back to the United Kingdom.
