Is there lean non-beef meat available here? Usually, lamb is sold here and it has lot of fat.

You can always trim the fat off, thats what I do anyways on the rare occasions I do buy red meat, which is usually mutton, stay away from beef most of the time.

Well, indian mutton has smell I don't like. Suddani goat was the leanest and smell free meat I've ever tasted, but it was available here for a short time only.

Here is a quick comparison might be different from breed to breed.

Calories Fat (g) Sat. Fat (g) Protein (g) Iron (g)

GOAT 122 2.58 0.79 23 3.2

Beef 245 16.0 6.8 23 2.0

Pork 310 24.0 8.7 21 2.7

Lamb 235 16.0 7.3 22 1.4

Chicken 120 3.5 1.1 21 1.5

Fat on the meat is what gives it its flavour. Simply drain off the excess fat as it cooks - no big deal.

Riiiight, so pulling the roasting tray out mid-roast and tipping out the fat is too much work is it?

Yup, and it may not exactly get rid enough fat.

:) Not everyone roasts a leg of lamb Chocs. like I am lazy when it comes to cooking and feeding myself, if i deceide to cook, I like laid back methods like stewed/casserole cooking. I just chuck whatever meat there is with vegies, spices, water into one soucepan on the cooker/oven and then come back in an hours time to serve on plate :)))
